Kevin J.A. Hunter
Kevin J.A. Hunter received his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with distinction, from the University of Toronto. He then joined the York Regional Police in 1998 where he spent eleven years as a police officer.
During his policing career, Mr. Hunter received the Colonel A.A. Wallace Award from the Ontario Police College. This award is presented annually to the student who finishes at the top of their graduating class. Mr. Hunter was also a qualified breath technician for seven years and received training in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Thus, he is intimately familiar with both the complex legal and practical issues surrounding the alcohol-related driving offenses in the Criminal Code.
With an eye toward practicing in criminal defence, Mr. Hunter attended Osgoode Hall Law School where he received his Juris Doctor. He was the recipient of the Cassells Brock LLP award as top student in the inaugural Ethical Lawyering in a Global Community program. Mr. Hunter was also selected as the top student in the Trial Practice program, a practical based curriculum designed to enhance and refine courtroom advocacy skills. As a result, he was chosen to represent Osgoode Hall Law School in the prestigious Arnup Cup, an annual inter–provincial trial advocacy competition. Mr. Hunter also participated in Osgoode Hall’s renowned Intensive Program in Criminal Law, gaining invaluable practical experience.
After aligning his studies to reflect his passion for criminal law, Mr. Hunter joined Canada’s largest criminal defence firm as a summer student. He then followed that firm’s former senior partner, Edward H. Royle, joining Edward H. Royle & Associates where he completed his articles and is currently an associate and student coordinator. Mr. Hunter is proud to use the expertise he gained from his previous experience to assist in the fervent defence of those charged with criminal offenses.
